KOLA is a Classic Hits commercial music radio station based in Redlands, California, which broadcasts in the Riverside-San Bernardino, California area, on 99.9 FM. KOLA was founded by Fred Cote, first owner and general manager. His studios are located in Redlands, California, and the transmitter tower, in the Moreno Valley. 99.9 FM was signed in 1959 as KFMW, its transmitter being located on Mount Box Springs southeast of Riverside. Fred Coté bought the station in the year 1968 and changed the call sign to KOLA and changed from KFMW's MOR / KFMW format to a soul and Top 40 format. In the winter of 1970-1971, KOLA moved his studios to the Mission Inn in downtown Riverside . In 1980, the station moved to Album Oriented Rock with Ted Ziegenbusch as a programming consultant until 1987.
