Sunny Radio is a group of radio stations based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with the numbers KZOY and KZOI. KZOY sends out a format from the 1980s and was the first radio station besides satellite that did so. It is currently the third most popular radio station in the metropolitan area of Sioux Falls. Sunny Radio was founded by a local couple, John and Heidi Small. John had radio experience and always dreamed of owning a station. In the summer of 2009, the couple built the only local radio station in the Sioux Empire, as all others are owned by companies. They opted for a format of the 1980s, as it is fun to dance to the music that suits their "sunny" theme, and also to the older audience, who previously had no choice but to listen to modern music, because there was little variety.
