WTJU is a radio station in various formats, licensed in Charlottesville, Virginia, serving Charlottesville and Albemarle County, Virginia. WTJU is owned and operated by the University of Virginia. WTJU allows its DJ volunteers to play almost anything they choose, as long as it does not violate the rules of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding decency. All WTJU DJs are volunteers from the community, including U.Va. students, lecturers and employees, graduates and community members. Most programs include music and are generally divided into classical, folk, jazz and blues and rock [18]. Music in all genres is usually very eclectic, with a strong emphasis on music, which is rarely, if ever, heard on commercial radio stations.
